ETHIOPIE

  • Une famine tres politique
  • When we remember any nation we might first remember its monuments or some positive aspects. When it comes to Ethiopia, unfortunately, it is the famine that comes to everyone’s mind.  It is a very sad fact which none can deny.  This nation had been battered by famines for many years.  However, the one which occurred in the year 1984 is the worst famine.  Majority of the Ethiopian population is engaged in farming.  Frequent crop failures are part of Ethiopian farming.  In 1980 already the country was suffering severely due to famine.  In order to control the local revolts, US-controlled all the ports of Ethiopia.  This resulted in a major blow to the economy.  The Ethiopian government could not take any sensible action for the drought.  Food supplies from Eritrea could not be brought as Eritrea was also facing severe drought and crop failure.  In a single year, nearly 8 million people were affected by famine and nearly 1 million lost their life due to famine.  Continue reading this post to know how the world came to know about it.  When the media brought the pictures and news about the famine the entire world was shocked.  In many nations, they started feeling the need to raise funds and provide relief to the people.  The Ethiopian government tried to resettle many of the farmers in the southern part of the country.  This only led to further loss of lives.
